Openly Gay Police Constable In Jamaica

Jamaica is probably the worst place on earth to live if you are a homosexual. What you do behind closed doors could get you severely beaten or even killed.

This Jamaican police constable decided to come out of the closet and share his story. Depending on which side of the issue you support, he is either very brave or very stupid for doing this.

Obscenity Fines? What A Joke!

I am a huge dancehall fan so I am use to all the hardcore lyrics about killing each other, cursing, swearing and of course the mandatory calls for gays to be wiped off the face of the earth. I expect all of this when I listen to a new Stone Love recording or head to a stage show on or off the island and I honestly think other dancehall fans expect it as well. So why all the obscenity fines?

It makes me laugh that the government will charge someone like Bounty Killer $75 for swearing at a stage show when the man is an international celebrity. What are they hoping to accomplish? I certainly hope that the process for paying the fine is painful for him because the $75 isn’t going to hurt him any!

Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world (1,300+ per year) and I would guess that there were at least 1,500 more “legal” shootings involving police or licensed gun carriers on top of that. So if you really wanted to protect your society, wouldn’t you rather fine the man for preaching gun violence rather than dropping an F-bomb here or there? Their intentions are good but I don’t think that they have really thought this through.

Bleaching – A Serious Problem

People are always trying to change the way they look. Some exercise or adjust their diet while others take things to the extreme and get plastic surgery. Would you ever want to change your skin colour though? Your first reaction might be “no way” but think about it for a minute. Do you think that you look better with a tan? What if you could have that tan all year round with out sun tanning…would you do it?

We have been taught from an early age that the colour black represents everything that is bad and white represents all that is good. Because of this it is easy to understand why some black folks believe that they have to lighten their skin colour to be accepted by society. Some are even risking their life trying to look “whiter”. Take a look at this video and see what some Jamaicans are doing to themselves to make this happen…

The Weed Man

At most of the entertainment events in Canada you will see someone walking around selling things like popcorn, candy, hot dogs and beer. When you go to an event in Jamaica though, you will sometimes see someone like this walking around trying to sell you something very different!

I wish I had a picture of some of the guys that were selling weed when I was in Jamaica at Sumfest. It was hilarious to see people walking around with green garbage bags full of weed and selling huge amounts for less than what you would pay for a beer at BMO Field!
