Katie Couric Interviews Sarah Palin

If you didn’t catch this interview, you have to watch it! It is hard to believe that this woman could be running the US in a few years. It isn’t so much that she is an “idiot” but more that she is so out of her league.

People argue that she has at least as much experience as Obama. I think the difference is that he has been preparing for the job of president for quite some time whereas Palin was picked simply to attract religious votes and the female vote. Initially it was a smart move for McCain to pick her but Americans and the rest of the world are now starting to see ho irresponsible the pick was.

I can’t wait to see the VP debate on Thursday. Biden has a good chance to crush her and take some big shots at the McCain campaign but will he pull the trigger? If he does crush her, will she step aside for “personal” reasons and allow someone else to take her place? It should be an interesting few weeks before the election!

Tina Fey did a great parody of this interview! If you want to check it out, just click the link to see the Tina Fey Parody.

Tina Fey Parody – Katie Couric Interview With Palin

Another great job by Tina Fey! I’ll post the actual interview in the politics section and link back to this one so that you can see both the original interview and this one.

No Lowe’s Super Store For Kingston

To be honest, I haven’t followed this thing from the beginning but I sure don’t like how it finished! I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised that the “powers that be” in Kingston dug in their heels and fought against more improvements to the city. It is just amazing how people can look past all the obvious benefits of certain business opportunities and focus on negatives and hypothetical situations.

We have a chunk of vacant land that has no chance of being developed in the near future and a HUGE company comes along and says that they will take it if we just rezone the land from industrial to commercial. If we do this, we get $1.8 million in construction fees, $350,000 annually in taxes and 175 badly needed jobs are created. Sounds like a good deal to me! Not to council members though. They would rather wait for their dream tenant to come along instead…even though nobody is interested in the land other than Lowe’s.

Location, location, location! You’re taught that location is the key to any business so Lowe’s obviously had a reason for choosing theirs in Kingston. According to Vicki Shmolka though, if Lowe’s wants in this market, they will find a new location. I really hope that Lowe’s takes this to court and fights for this project. In the meantime, maybe we can turn down another casino….we didn’t need all that money neither.

Obscenity Fines? What A Joke!

I am a huge dancehall fan so I am use to all the hardcore lyrics about killing each other, cursing, swearing and of course the mandatory calls for gays to be wiped off the face of the earth. I expect all of this when I listen to a new Stone Love recording or head to a stage show on or off the island and I honestly think other dancehall fans expect it as well. So why all the obscenity fines?

It makes me laugh that the government will charge someone like Bounty Killer $75 for swearing at a stage show when the man is an international celebrity. What are they hoping to accomplish? I certainly hope that the process for paying the fine is painful for him because the $75 isn’t going to hurt him any!

Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world (1,300+ per year) and I would guess that there were at least 1,500 more “legal” shootings involving police or licensed gun carriers on top of that. So if you really wanted to protect your society, wouldn’t you rather fine the man for preaching gun violence rather than dropping an F-bomb here or there? Their intentions are good but I don’t think that they have really thought this through.

I Got A Parking Ticket!

I went downtown on Wednesday night and decided to park my car in the public lot at Wellington & Queen. It seemed pretty busy downtown so I was happy that I was able to find a spot right by the sidewalk running down Queen St…right in front of the electronic ticket machine. I wasn’t sure how long I would be so I made sure that I put a couple dollars in so that I would have 2 hours worth of time and went on my way.

I came back awhile later to find that I had a $15 parking ticket ($10 if I paid it within a week). Obviously I was mad and more than a little confused! As I looked over the ticket, I saw that it said “event parking” so there was a flat rate that was suppose to be paid to park in the public lot. There was no sign on the ticket machine I used but as I wandered back to the front of the lot, I saw a little sign saying that there was an event at the (K-Rock Centre (text link to http://www.k-rockcentre.com/)) so the prices would increase after 5:30pm (I think that was the time).

Now I’m all for the idea behind using the lots for the events but I wasn’t too happy in this situation as I don’t think that the sign was clearly visible when I pulled into the lot. Before getting this ticket, it was my belief that the city would adjust the price of parking via the ticket machine on event days instead of having to pay for 5 hours of parking.

So now I am looking at $12 for parking when I thought I was paying for extra time than I needed with my initial $2. I would have been better off not putting anything in the meter at all! I still support the idea behind it all but I guess I just wish we had of bought bigger signs for the lot when we pumped $40 million into the project.

Bleaching – A Serious Problem

People are always trying to change the way they look. Some exercise or adjust their diet while others take things to the extreme and get plastic surgery. Would you ever want to change your skin colour though? Your first reaction might be “no way” but think about it for a minute. Do you think that you look better with a tan? What if you could have that tan all year round with out sun tanning…would you do it?

We have been taught from an early age that the colour black represents everything that is bad and white represents all that is good. Because of this it is easy to understand why some black folks believe that they have to lighten their skin colour to be accepted by society. Some are even risking their life trying to look “whiter”. Take a look at this video and see what some Jamaicans are doing to themselves to make this happen…

Tina Fey Parody Of Sarah Palin

I had a hard time deciding whether to put this under politics or funny stuff but decided that it had to go here because it is just way too funny! Tina Fey returned to Saturday Night Live (SNL) to do the parody.

The best part about it all is that Tina Fey would probably do as good a job at VP as Palin would. :)

New Listeria Alert!!!

Fearing more cases of listeriosis popping up, Canadians are being advised to throw out all of the following Maple Leaf products:

The Weed Man

At most of the entertainment events in Canada you will see someone walking around selling things like popcorn, candy, hot dogs and beer. When you go to an event in Jamaica though, you will sometimes see someone like this walking around trying to sell you something very different!

I wish I had a picture of some of the guys that were selling weed when I was in Jamaica at Sumfest. It was hilarious to see people walking around with green garbage bags full of weed and selling huge amounts for less than what you would pay for a beer at BMO Field!
